There have been very few challenges in my life that come close to me trying to define the memories, admiration, gratitude, friendship and love into a single keepsake of life that would be Julia’s urn.
As I started this piece my wife, Tracy Lynne , rescued me several times as I stumbled and waited for some heralding joy of creation to arrive….that focused creation necessary to restore my fragmentation of thought and feeling. Compounding the process were the multiple design changes that arrived unwantedly…..too many thoughts of Jules.
I’m pleased with the final piece. A simple flowing shape with the golden glow of Canary wood embellished with pink mussel shell flowers, a trail of blue pau abalone following a butterfly made of white and gold mother of pearl with a jade body.
I have been somewhat reluctant to see it go and admit to have dragging my feet to deliver it to her husband as it was just a small part of her that I am again losing. I have a small photo of her up in my shop now, an inspiration during the making of the piece and now and forever a reminder of the best sister I ever had.
