This jewelry box is made of wenge with a bottom made of padauk. Wenge is a hardwood that grows in central Africa. It is a heavy/dense wood.
The box is about 16" x 7 3/4" x 6 1/4" in height. There are four removable canary wood trays that are lined with violet colored soft goat skin . The trays are accented with pau blue abalone. The ring tray can be removed for a larger tray capacity. The handle is a hand cut piece of red brecciated Jasper. The piece was originally from a hand sized boulder that was sliced to a slab, cut to a ruff shape and ground and polished like many of my lapidary pendants. The mine for obtaining this material has long been closed to the public for gathering.
